Davis Claims Back to Back Crate Wins at Bridgeport’s Wildcard Weekend

Wildcard Weekend day 3 of the 602 crate division at Bridgeport Motorsports Park saw 43 crate competitors on the grounds from NY, PA, NJ and DE.  Steve Davis was able to survive a talent filled field and pull off back to back wins on Saturday and Sunday.

The field was lead to green by Anthony Tramontana and Steve Davis.  Tramontana led the first 7 laps only to spin out on from heavy racing contact sending the 13T to the back of the field for the remainder of the race.  Steve Davis inherited the lead and cruised into victory lane with over a 2 second margin of victory.

Paul Mancini had his best finish of the season with a 2nd place finish from a 9th starting position and made a solid run through a very solid field of cars.  On Saturday Hydraulic Oil Invitation the 7m finished 13th from a 16th starting position.  After some minor repairs on Saturday night and setup changes for Sunday’s heat race the 7m finished 3rd in the heat and got in the redraw.  The setup changes were spot on and Mancini moved forward during the 20 lap feature to a best ever 2nd place finish.

Big Diamond regular Jonathan Swift made the tow in from coal country and had a strong 3rd place finish from a 15th starting position in the feature.  Swift came in on Sunday and started strong in the heat with a 4th place finish recovering from an 8th place draw.  The 3rd place finish was Swift’s best Bridgeport finish of the season.

43 crates were on the grounds attempting to qualify for one of the 24 feature starting positions.

All 3 cautions and the 1 red flag in the feature were for racing contact related spins.
