Anthony Tramontana Looking to Move Onward and Upward at New Egypt and Beyond in 2023 Modified Campaign

Anthony Tramontana finished his first year of modified racing with a solid fifth place finish in the New Egypt modified points standings.  Anthony is on a mission to get his first modified win as his family-owned racing team expands to a two-car team for the 2023 season. They will continue to run their spec at New Egypt Speedway for weekly points and the second car will be either a big block or Open Small Block for the Short Track Super Series South Region events.

Anthony started racing in quarter midgets and at 15 years old moved to 602 crates at New Egypt Speedway where he won four rookie features and the rookie points championship while also finishing 10th in the 2019 602 crate point standings.

In 2020 Anthony improved to a fifth-place finish in the season points.  2021 saw another fifth-place finish in New Egypt crate points standings but this time with 3 feature wins while he also finished 5th in the Georgetown Speedway 602 crate points.

Anthony stated “The move from crate to modified was a huge challenge for my family racing team.  We knew if we were going to make the leap to modified, we needed to be competitive right away.  So that’s the reason we went with Morgantini Race Engines for our Spec engine as well as updating our chassis to a 2022 Bicknell.  It became clear right away, that the guys racing in modified are the best of the best and they might rub rails with you here and there but mostly they don’t wreck you.  They race hard every second and don’t give an inch.  It’s been a real nice change to be able to focus on driving, racing and making moves rather than just trying to survive like was often the case when racing the 602 crate.  I still have a lot to learn in the modified to be able to stay with these guys that have been racing for years.

In 2022 Anthony made the move to modified and it was a huge success as he was able to finish fifth in the modified ranks in his first year in the division at New Egypt Speedway.  He also made his first ever trip to Grandview Speedway and finished 10th in the Balls to the Wall 50.

In addition to the modified racing, for the past three years Anthony has been campaigning a 600 Micro for car owner Bob Burgess at Spirit Auto Speedway.

Anthony reflected “In the 2022 season I was racing against drivers that I have watched for years.  We were able to finish a strong 5th in the season long NES point standings while also placing 10th in our first ever trip to Grandview Speedway.   We also did have our troubles in our rookie modified season as we chased ignition problems which sidelined us for several weeks and we struggled figuring out our coil suspension.”

Anthony noted “In the off season we put together a second car that we hope to use to run the Short Track Super Series South region.  It will also serve as an emergency backup car for our spec 358 motors.  We already opened our 2023 season with a trip to Florida for the Sunshine Series but lost our big block motor in the very first practice night.  We are trying to figure out what we want to do with the Deyo car’s broken motor so for the time being we are already sidelined with the Deyo series / second car.  So now our next race will be the season opener at New Egypt Speedway with our spec 358 motor.”

“My plans for the 2023 is to continue to race weekly on Saturdays at New Egypt Speedway.  We are going to try to run some of the remaining Deyo shows once we get our big block back in action.  I hope to run both the Coal Cracker and Freedom 76 this year.  We will also run Bridgeport when our schedule permits and hope to be able to travel to some new tracks this year too.”

Anthony continued “My goals for 2023 are first and foremost to get my first career modified win or two wins.  We finished a strong fifth in the New Egypt 2022 points standings so I would also like to improve on that and finish higher than fifth in the NES points standing in 2023.”

“I’m a second-generation driver with my dad as crew chief.  My dad and uncle both raced back in the day with JC Mears and Bob Worthington who are now both sponsors.  I couldn’t do this without my mom and dad being 100 % onboard and the support of our sponsors which make all this possible year in and year out for us:
