CJ Faison, Travis Hill & Jimmy Blewett Post Danny Serrano Memorial Day 1 Wins at Bridgeport Speedway

100 cars jammed the pits at Bridgeport Speedway for day 1 of the Danny Serrano Memorial.

Modifieds ran three sessions of timed hot laps with HJ Bunting, Ryan Godown, and Neil Williams securing quick time of their session which earned them automatic redraw position for the Triple Twenty heat races tomorrow.

CJ Faison led the 25 lap feature from green to checkered with Dave Brown in second for the entire 25 lap feature.   With one to go, Brown took the lead with a slider only to have Faison cross over and quickly regain his lead which he carried into victory lane for his 3rd win of the season.

In victory lane CJ noted “I had to push it and that what these cars are all about, the less you drive it hard the less you win and that’s what I’ve learned from the least couple of races this summer.   I saw Dave on the board leaders, and I was able to block his slider on the final lap and take the win.  I just remember sitting around on a Sundays with Danny laughing about all the drama. It’s a great honor to win Danny’s Memorial race”

Travis Hill won the Underdog 20 holding off a charging Dylan Swinehart to take his first win of the season.

Polesitter James Hill from Delaware took the early lead until Travis Hill moved into the lead on lap 9.  Travis was able to hold off James Hill on several restarts and then a late hard charge by Dylan Swinehart to drive into victory lane for a good start to his Danny Serrano Memorial weekend.

In victory lane Travis noted “We struggled to get a win this year and I’ll take a win this year any way we can get it.  There are a lot of good cars in this Underdog 20 race and this win is a good start to our Danny Serrano Memorial weekend.  We are hopeful we can get the win on Sunday for the big money.”

Second place Dylan Swinehart commented “We broke in hot laps when our distributor went bad but came back in qualifying and put the car in the program with an 8th place timed hot lap.  In feature we went from 8th to 4th in two laps and had a bunch of restarts early and on one I got freight trained back to 7th when leader didn’t go.  I was then able to race back up to 2nd and in the end was closing fast on the leader but just needed about two more laps and it would have gotten interesting.”

Jimmy Blewett took the win in the 7 caution Street Stock 20 lap feature over Lee Allen who finished 2nd after a side by side battle with 3rd place Spider Ensinger Sr.

Postrace Jimmy stated “Our main concern tonight was to shakedown this car for the big $10,000 race in a few weeks.  It great to be in victory lane on a weekend honoring a great person like Danny Serrano.  What they have done with this speedway since Danny has left us is just amazing.  This is the best dirt track I’ve ever been to as far as the racing and fan support.  Rob Ormsbee puts a lot of time into his car, and I want to thank Rob, his crew and everyone that puts a hand on this car to help get it into victory lane here tonight.”

Back at the trailer Jimmy noted “This was my first time in this car and 1st time back on the track since the win last year at the street stock nationals.  Rob has a 2nd and 1st here this season and this was a good win for us tonight.  Every time I come here, I continue to see improvements as Doug puts his heart and soul into this track.  It is a great place to race.  Danny is a long time family friend of mine and he’s sitting upstairs with John laughing at me in a street stock.  Danny and Doug’s vision for this track continues to unfold.  You can race anywhere on this track.”

2nd place Lee Allen commented “I started 6th but had some good luck on a couple of restarts and moved up to 3rd where I had a hell of a race with Spider Ensinger Sr. but was able to get 2nd tonight. Track position means a little bit to everything sometimes. Rob was really fast tonight and with starting up front we just couldn’t track him down tonight.”

Spider Ensinger finished 3rd and noted “We are here tonight preparing our new car for the 100 lap race.  This track was beautiful tonight.  Thanks to Doug Rose and the track crew giving us a great track.  I was hanging on tonight on just following the guy in front of me.  We had a good starting position up front which made a big difference tonight.  We’ll be back at the big race with three cars and three generations of drivers – myself, my son and my grandson.”
