NASCAR’s Championship Weekend will Return to Phoenix in 2023

Two big announcements were made regarding Phoenix Raceway on Tuesday, both regarding the championship weekend, as the track has hosted the finale since 2020.

The first one is that grandstand tickets were already sold out for the NASCAR Cup Series Championship race in November. The second announcement was that the 2023 NASCAR Championship weekend will also be at Phoenix Raceway, which now the first domino has fallen on the 2023 schedule. The track completed a $178 million renovation project designed to improve the fan experience, and one that included a reconfiguration for the track’s start/finish line, before hosting its first championship event in 2020. The start/finish line was moved from what is now the backstretch to what is referred to as the “dog leg.”

“This historic achievement wouldn’t be possible without the outpouring of support the community and our fans continue to show for events at our facility,” said Phoenix Raceway President Julie Giese. “They continue to make Phoenix Raceway a must-visit sports and entertainment destination, and our dedicated team will continue their tireless efforts to deliver a championship-caliber experience that our race fans will remember for years to come.”

The 2023 NASCAR Championship Weekend is scheduled for Nov. 3-5 and will include championship races for the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and ARCA Menards Series West.

Homestead-Miami Speedway formerly hosted the finale from 2002 to 2019, until moving it out west to Phoenix for the 2020 season, which was impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Chase Elliott won his first Cup Series Championship in front of a limited capacity, and Kyle Larson won the championship in 2021 in front of a full capacity.
