JRM Scooter Racing Embarks on Inaugural 2022 Modified Season at STSS Sunshine Series

JRM Scooter Racing team was formed as a merger of three crate team owners – John Redner, Doug Snyder, and Doug Williams who combined talents, resources, equipment, and sponsors to go modified racing as a multi car team instead of a one car team.

JRM Scooter Racing has been busy this winter upgrading equipment and is ready to continue their modified notebook building for the 2022 season while running an outlaw schedule.  They are kicking the 2022 season by taking their 2021 Teo Elite and 410 open small block to the STSS Sunshine Series at All-Tech Speedway in Florida for 5 days of testing and racing.

During the winter, Doug Williams was the 3rd crate team owner who came on board to complete the multi-car JRM Scooter Racing modified team.  The team has a long-term plan for their transition to modified focused around learning and building a notebook.  They start the 2022 season with 4 motors and 3 cars including a 2022 High Fab and a 2021 Teo.  In addition, they have three sets of sponsors, two enclosed trailers and a small boatload of rims and tires.

Crew chief John Redner brings a vast knowledge of modified turning and chassis setup from three years on Mike Gular’s crew as well as three years of prior driving experience.

John stated “This has been a great experience to build JRM Scooter Racing from the ground up.  We are using the 2022 season as building block to learn modified racing this season and hopefully will be reasonably competitive at the same time.  We are definitely looking forward to trying new things in our first year of modified racing and very excited about having a 2022 Hig Fab and a 2021 Teo Elite to work with this season.”

Driver Doug Snyder brings 10 years of 600 micro racing experience and two years of 602 crate racing to JRM Scooter Racing as he enters his first year of full-time modified racing.

Doug noted “It is a dream come true to be the driver for JRM Scooter Racing team.  I’m excited to be able to focus on driving and having a crew chief providing feedback and adjusting the car.  John’s adjustments and comments have already made a world of a difference in my driving during our testing last year.”

JRM Racing loosely formed in July of 2021.  Using a 2010 Bicknell with an old and underpowered 358 they were able to get 19 races in before then end of 2021 and began building crew chief/driver chemistry while also getting Snyder more modified seat time and starting their modified notebook before the start of the 2022 season.

John Redner reflected on the 2021 season “We went to the Eastern States last year to see what we need to compete at that high level of modified racing and start building our notebook for the future.  Doug drove my crate several nights and our communication as tuner and driver came together well.   We managed a 4th at Penn Can on one of our first outings as a team.  We finished out the season at every race we could looking to add a piece to the modified puzzle no matter how small it was.  We were able to figure out our shock package for 2022 at Bridgeport in November.  Our final race of the season was the Gobbler at Accord and we were horrible in practice.  We managed to finished 2nd in the heat and 11th in the feature with a 2010 Bicknell.  I was really pleased with how Doug and I were able to communicate as crew chief and driver.”

John continued “In July I knew I wanted to go all out modified racing but knew I needed more updated equipment and a driver.  Sometimes it’s just amazing how the moons align for things to work out the way they do.  My old friend Doug Snyder couldn’t keep up with being a crate team owner, crew chief, driver, business owner and full-time team manager for his kid’s racing endeavors but he was a perfect fit as the driver for JRM Scooter Racing.   Doug Williams was able to complete our multi car modified team with the addition of his 2021 Teo Elite car and 410 open small block motor.  We are ready to build our modified notebook during the 2022 season.”

If anyone meets the definition of a wheeler dealer it is Doug Snyder.  Doug’s racing program has evolved in less than 2 years from 600 micro racing to 602 crate racing and now to modified racing.  In that time Doug has upgraded equipment numerous times finally selling his crate equipment for the 5th and final time to move to the modified division.

Doug Snyder reflected “It’s funny how sometimes your racing career leads you to a point; and in the end you find out it was the right place at the right time to realize your childhood dream.  I just wasn’t having the greatest crate season in 2021 and decided to sell the car and focus on my business and managing my kids racing on Wednesday nights.  My old friend John Redner called later in July and was looking for a driver to race modified in 2022 and little did we know JRM Scooter Racing was born.  I drove for John a little 5 years ago.  We raced 19 races at the end of 2021 and were able to re-establish our tuner driver chemistry.  Despite having an underpowered modified I learned so much about modified driving running behind Danny Johnson at the Gobbler and just watching him do what he does.  The one thing I already learned is that the increased horsepower of a modified makes the car work better and much easier to drive then a crate.”

Doug continued “Our goals for the 2022 are simply to build our modified notebook for the future and be able to qualify at a Deyo STSS event as well as run in the top 10 or 15 locally each week.  We plan to start the season with the Sunshine Series in Florida and then stay with the STSS Elite Series at Cherokee Speedway in the end of February.  Then we plan on taking both cars to the Georgetown for the South Region STSS season opener in March.  From there we will run an outlaw weekly schedule on most weekends but do hope to run Five Mile Point for their 12 race modified series and see how we do.  We definitely plan on attending as many big fall races as we can so we can build our notebook while competing against the best in the northeast.”

JRM Scooter Racing has done their homework for the 2022 season with testing, shop preparation and planning. Now all that is left is to get on track and build the notebook.  With a little racing luck and help from their friends there is little doubt they will achieve their goals for their first modified season while building their notebook for the 2023 season.
