Joslin Mechanical Continues to Expand Racing and Sponsorships into 2021

Andrew Joslin has been involved in racing since the age of 4 and although his path to the sport may not have been a traditional one he has found a perfect blend of family life, business and racing through car ownership, car sponsorship and track sponsorship at Bridgeport.

If it has wheels and is somewhat related to racing Joslin will sponsor it.  Joslin currently sponsors 12 drivers in about 20 different cars.  The on track cars range from ¼ midgets, 270’s, 600’s, TQ midgets, speedsters, street stocks, crates and URC East Coast 360’s.  Joslin even sponsors non racing vehicles such as the side by side used by his Dad to push and tow micros at Bridgeport.  He also may be the only golf cart sponsor out there sponsoring a golf cart used by Airport track photographer Richard Jester.

The Saturday nights at the race track started early in life for a 4 year old Andrew who went to the track with his brother while his mom and dad worked on the volunteer ambulance crew at Bridgeport.  By high school he was selling programs at Bridgeport while his dad Chuck was crewing for Jim Neely’s R9 street stock entry.  It didn’t take long for Andrew to join his dad on the R9 crew and soon the two of them found themselves as proud owners of a street stock motor which meant they had to buy a street stock car and eventually go racing in their # 6 black street stock Camaro.  In their second year the Camaro was painted black and gold in remembrance of Joslin’s NASCAR hero Smokey Yunick.  A crate sportsman car was purchased for Andrew’s dad Chuck to finally race with in the rookie division but when the street stock motor broke it was Andrew who ended up wheeling the car in the crate division midway through the 2018 season.  “I didn’t find the crate as much fun to drive as the street stock since it actually has less horsepower so we decided to sell it and return to a full time street stock program” Joslin noted.

“When we purchased the Outlaw 57 car from Tom Wills Sr. he was just too in sync driving the car to take him out of the car so that’s when I decided to step out of the weekly driver’s seat in favor of Tom Wills Sr.  I found out how much fun I could have just managing the car and the racing instead of driving and decided I could dedicate more time to sponsorship support of other cars and here we are now with around 20 cars that we support.  The step back from driving has also helped me be in the grandstands with my wife Kerry and sons Charles Jr and Hudson which is very important to me” Joslin stated.

Andrew’s company “Joslin’s Mechanical” repairs, services and installs HVAC equipment and has also sponsored the Bridgeport 250 micro division in 2019 and a trackside billboard and an event night title sponsor at Bridgeport in 2020.

The Joslin Mechanical # 6 & Outlaw 57 street stock team got their first career win in 2020 with the Tom Wills Sr. behind the wheel of the outlaw 57 at Bridgeport Motorsports Park.  Joslin quipped “Our geezer crew is one of the oldest around at Bridgeport as our entire crew and driver are over 60 and enjoy competing with the youngsters.”

Like all the Bridgeport regulars Steve Kemery came into the 2020 season not knowing what to expect from a brand new high banked 4/10 mile track the “Kingdom of Speed” on top of a pandemic delay to start of the season.  Kemery won his first race on a brand new Bridgeport surface and never looked back as he proceeded to win 5 races at Bridgeport and the first crate Points championship on the new high banked 4/10 circuit at Bridgeport for his best season in recent memory.  Steve got his 6th win at Georgetown and secured a guaranteed spot for the 1st annual Speed Showcase at Port Royal Speedway were he finished 6th in an event that was attended by over 60 crate competitors from all over the east coast.  But by far his biggest and most meaning win of the season was his 5th Bridgeport win of the $2,000 at the 1st annual “Danny Serrano Memorial”.

Kyle Spence won his second driller in 2020 with hopes to repeat again in 2021 this weekend and bring home his 3rd driller in 3 years.  Steve Kemery was the first Joslin Mechanical sponsored car to win a Bridgeport points championship in 2020.   Joslin’s goal for 2021 is for a Kemery repeat as crate champion and add a street stock and a 600 micro championship to make it a triple crown for the Joslin Mechanical sponsored cars in 2021.  Andrew noted “the street stock division is currently up in the air at Bridgeport as the class awaits 2021 rule changes to be announced.”  The Joslin Mechanical sponsored street stocks of Tom Wills Jr., Tom Wills Sr., and Nick Sandone finishing 4th, 5th and 6th respectively in the Bridgeport Street Stock points in 2020 with hopes of a 1-2-3, in 2021.

Joslin may have given up his full time driving but now has now found his happy place as a car owner and multiple race team sponsor helping other drivers and watching the racing with his wife Kerry and sons Charles Jr and Hudson.  For now the Joslin Mechanical Outlaw 57 team will continue to chase a street stock championship at Bridgeport and continue to support both small and big cars alike.  With racing in both sides of this family it’s just a matter of time, when and where the next generation of Joslin’s start getting involved with racing.
