Beautiful New York state foliage and unusually warm fall temperatures greeted nearly 200 race teams for day 1 of the Eastern States Nationals. All time trials and qualifying heats were completed in big block modified, small block modified and 602 crates.
For the first time the highlight of the night was the inaugural “Race for the Pole” 20 lap event. The 6 fastest big block qualifiers and 6 heat race winners were in the 20 lap race with the winner getting the pole position on the 200 lap Eastern States feature. Larry Wight qualified as the winner of heat 1 and sweep to victory lane from the 4th starting position in the 12 car field to determine the top 12 starting position in the 200.

Day 2 racing resumes tomorrow Saturday October 24 at Orange County Fairgrounds for Four Features – Pro Stock, 602 Crates, Small Block Modified and Big Block Eastern States 200 with warmups at 2:00.
