The year 2018 will go down in our history as one of new beginnings. Since my high school days, working in the field of sports journalism has been a dream of mine. The traditional route is college, small towns, and a cutthroat world of climbing to the top. I’ve always been one to swim upstream, so my path was different. It was in this last year that I decided to take the plunge and go after my dream. NRN was founded after a call for new content contributors to the Facebook page of our friends at NJ Racing. Fred Hahn and Richard Jester took me in, and gave me a place to try new things and express my views on the sport I love most. This led in to a working relationship with Gary Mondschein and Classic Racing Times, partnering with Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway, and now covering the Sammons Productions Indoor Auto Racing Series.
We started with one camera and an old computer, and the year has seen growth like I couldn’t have imagined. We now have the capability to offer our clients multi-camera shoots, speed shots at track level, live broadcasts directly to their social media platforms, news and editorial writing, photography, and more. We recently added a new reporter in Addy Jacobs, and we always are on the lookout for more talented people who have a dream the same as ours.
We witnessed triumph and tragedy. Zeb Wise becoming the youngest USAC national series winner, the losses of Jason Johnson and Greg Hodnett, Will Power exorcising his Indy demons in the world’s greatest Victory Lane, Joey Logano vanquishing NASCAR’s big three for his first title; 2018 surely was a stunning year in Motorsports. With the arrival of new teams to the IndyCar Series, a multi-time World Champion returning for another crack at racing’s Triple Crown, a NASCAR world growing and evolving, and local tracks seeming to make a resurgence, 2019 is shaping up to be just as spectacular.
Our great year wouldn’t have been possible without the love and support of my wife Urszula, kids Magdalena, Michelle and John, and our extended family and friends. It can’t be easy to have Dad away almost every weekend at a track somewhere, but we make it work. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you and appreciate you more than you could ever know.
From our family to yours, we wish you a very safe and happy New Year Celebration. As I mentioned earlier, we are always looking for people with a dream. Drop me a line at Chris@NationalRacingNetwork.com, and let me know what yours is. Thank you all for your support, and we can’t wait to see what comes in the New Year!
