SPORTSMAN PIT NOTES – 8/23/25

Joey Vaccaro took the win from his 5th starting position for his 2nd win of the season and his career.
In victory lane Joey reflected “Our second win of this season is huge for us. We made wholesale changes to the car after a DNQ last week. We were able to get to the front and maintain control of the race through a decent number of restarts. I just held the bottom but both Teague and Addison ran me clean and let me know they were there.
Back at the trailer Joey commented “It was definitely another good night. We made a lot of changes from last week to try and make the car more maneuverable & I’d say it worked out. We probably could have tightened the car up a little more for the slick in the feature.

“In the feature started 5th took the lead on lap 1 and tried to never look back. Getting out front & control these races in clean air is a big advantage. I had a great battle with Teague Miller for a while & Addison gave me a good nudge coming out of turn 2 with 3 laps to go but that ended up helping me get away.”
“To be able to turn around & win two features after the rollercoaster of a year we’ve had is absolutely amazing and I couldn’t be happier. They say, “races are won in the garage” and I’m glad to say that we have found that it couldn’t be more true.”

Addison Meitzler finished 2nd from his 14th starting position and has posted top ten finishes in his last three races.
Addison stated “ Went 6th to 3rd made in the heat to make the invert which we haven’t done in a while. “
“In the feature started 14th and got boxed in couple of times which wasted several laps. I Could run the bottom and middle but when I got to 2nd the middle went away. I couldn’t get my nose far enough under Vaccaro to force him into the slick so that was that. We have been good coming from the back to the front every week. The biggest thing is making invert in the heat. It’s hard enough winning from 14th let alone 24th.”

Gavyn Krupp finished 3rd from his 15th starting position.
Gavyn noted “The track was really good in hot laps, and we were 2nd quick in our group. In the heat race we started 7th and avoided a couple of cars getting together at the start. By end of the heat, we finished 2nd and made the invert.”

“I started 15th in the feature, and we didn’t really change much in setup except stagger. I knew the top was going to come in later in the race and I had to be patient until I found the top. The car felt amazing and the best the car ever felt since we changed to coils.”

Teague Miller finished 4th from his 13th starting position to post his best finish of the season.
Teague reflected “The night started hectic considering we just returned from a two-week family trip to Italy. We landed Saturday night at 5 PM after 25 hours of travel and I got in the car to rush right to the track to make our heat race. Got to thank Kyle Smith for taking the car out for hot laps to shake it down considering it was our back up car because we blew up the other motor in our weekly car. We rolled out the heat race in 6th and quickly got to 3rd and got a handicap spot. That really helped us in the feature in starting 13th.”

“I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but I made some early moves that paid off and put us in a spot to move into 2nd quickly. We had a good battle with Joey for the lead and a few other drivers as well. At the end the car became a handful, and we fell back a few spots but did salvage a top five and finished 4th.”

“It was different and difficult with our backup car although we have both cars as close to identical that we can get them. I got to make a huge shoutout to everyone who helps me, without them we wouldn’t be in this position of getting good finishes each week. The end of the year is coming up and we are just going to focus on what we’ve been doing, finishing races, running clean and smart.”

Colin Cox finished 5th from his 26th starting position making one of his strongest back to front runs of what has been almost a weekly occurrence.
Colin recalled “Heat races where tough last night just couldn’t go anywhere and was very hard to pass. I started 6th in the consolation, and at the start everyone went to the top. So, I had to start searching and was able to get in a groove and run down a couple cars to get up to 3rd.”
“I started 26th in the feature, just waited patiently, missing the wrecks, and being smart. I was able to get up to 5th at the line moving in on 4th. Another great night for us and I want to thank all my sponsors and my crew.”

It was an exceptional night for back to front runs starting with the hard charger of the night:
Colin Cox 26th to 5th
Mike Schneck 27th to 10th
Jimmy Lieby 28th to 11th
Nate Mohr 29th to 14th
Jesse Hirthler 24th to 9th
Kenny Gilmore 21st to 8th

Next up on Saturday, September 6 Grandview will present Modified, Sportsman and USAC East Coast Sprints on a three-division card with hot laps at 5:45 and racing at 7:00 pm.
