Addison Meitzler worked his way forward from his 8th starting position into 2nd by lap 9 and then into lead over polesitter Brayden Shelton on a lap 16 restart. SPORTSMAN PIT NOTES – 6/28/25

Addison Meitzler finished 1st from his 8th starting position to post his second consecutive Grandview win in addition to a win at Big Diamond. Early in the season it was nothing but wrecks each week but now he’s finished with three wins in the month of June.
Addison commented “In the heat race started 4th got up to 3rd and just cruised around and didn’t push the issue since we were in the invert. With our feature going first we didn’t want to change anything on the car from the heat. We won Big Diamond two weeks ago and turned that set of tires into our heat race tires and we ended up using them for this week’s feature as well.”
“In the feature the track was top lane dominate and tough to pass on. Caught enough yellows and made some restart passes to get us to the front.”

Colin Cox finished 2nd from 14th and continues to run back to front with his 5th consecutive hard charger award this season.
Colin noted “We didn’t make many changes from last week. We got a little more luck in the heat which we are not used to having. Got a couple cautions and was able to get up to 4th. That put me in the handicap, and I was slated to start 14th in the feature.”

“I knew I had a shot at winning and just had to keep my nose clean and as the points leader not force anything. I was up to 8th by the first caution and then to 4th by second caution. Once I got to 3rd, I knew it would be tough to get around Meitzler so I wanted to get around Shelton as quickly as I could. I got around him and started to run down Meitzler and got in a good rhythm until the caution came out with 3 to go. I tried everything I could, but it wasn’t enough to get the win. I think I had the fastest car just made a few mistakes in the middle of the race to let Meitzler get out front and pull away before I could get into 2nd. It’s cool that they do a hard charger with a little extra money and all the other bonuses you can get. Making handicapping helps a lot since being the point leader I can’t start any worse than 16th. I also give a lot of props to the track for trying and getting the show in despite the weather not looking good all day.”

Brad Brightbill finished 3rd from his 6th starting position to post his best finish of the season. Brad has started off the season with some bad luck contact incidents but maybe picking up some momentum after getting a strong clean run to build from in coming weeks.

Decker Swinehart finished 4th from his 5th starting position.
Decked stated “I started 3rd in the heat and finished 2nd. Our car was really good and just had to hold my line around the bottom.”
“ In the feature I started 5th, and the car was really fast. I was running 4th when a yellow came out and I got a bad restart and fell back to 5th. I got back by Bock and ended up getting 4th. The car was good, just a very fast top dominant track and hard to pass on. The car has been decent all year but just has been having some bad luck getting caught in wrecks until tonight.”

Kyle Hartzell finished 5th from his 9th starting position and posted his best finish of the season. Kyle had heavy frame damaged and had to weld the frame in two spots last week to race this week.
Kyle noted “In 1st heat, car was slightly loose but overall, it felt really fast. Battled our way up to 3rd to make our first handicap of the year.
“Moving to the feature the only change we made was opening up the right front brake a little bit. I started 9th, took a few laps for the right rear to warm up but when it did the car was on rails. Early in the race the top was the place to be. Got around a few cars, as the night went on, I moved to the bottom. The car just had more grip for me down there. Made a few nice passes to put us in 5th. The last couple restarts the car fired off very good but just couldn’t get the edge we needed to advance anymore. Overall, it was an amazing night for our team. We are still very new to this and learning every week.”

“Last week we bent/cracked the frame pretty bad. Lawson Szerencitz was kind enough to fix our frame during the week, so I would like to give a HUGE thank you to him. Also, a huge shout out to my dad and uncle Jeffy for getting the car back together while I was at work during the week. We are a very small team with a very small budget, so coming back after a week like last week and being able to run a top five was amazing for us.”

Next up on Tuesday July 1st is the Thunder on the Hill 410 Sprint cars & 358 Modified for PA Speed week. Then next Saturday, July 5 will be T.P. Trailer & Truck Equipment Night with a NASCAR double-header featuring the T.P. Trailer Modifieds & T.P. Truck Equipment Sportsman starting at 7:30 pm.
