Addison Meitzler took the win from his 4th starting position and has posted two wins in his last three races with a win at Big Diamond and Grandview.

In victory lane Addison stated “We have been riding the wreck rollercoaster this year and really didn’t think it could go that low.  Seems like if we finish one of these damn things we can win.  We have finished our last three races and won two of them.  I started in 4th but it seemed like 10th as yellows kept coming out after every pass and had to do it over again.  The bottom was loose so needed to get a good restart and then diamond off the turn and then once in the lead go into cruise control.  Thank you to all my sponsors who got us back on track after a rough and wrecked start to our season.”

In the 2nd feature Addison opted to the rear of the field from his 15th starting position.  Addison reflected “After seeing what the win was paying for a twin 20, we decided to take the green, get our start money and take her home for another day.”

Jesse Landis finished a strong 3rd from his 16th starting position in the first feature and then won the second feature from his 8th starting position.  After a 21ST and DNQ in his first two races; Jesse has now been on a tear with a win, 3rd and his second win of the season tonight.

In victory lane Jesse reflected “You got to run it hard, the harder into the turn the harder you come out.  They gave me the top on that restart, and I took it from 4th to 1st. On the last lap I knew Kenny would run the bottom, so I made sure I took it away.  In the season opener we went from 16 to 3rd and then broke, otherwise this would have been my 3rd win in five races at Grandview.  When you are fortunate enough to start that far front that you start in 8th, you need to do something with it and win the race.”

“Ever since we went to windows from sail panels, I can feel the car rotates so much better.  With the right-side pan-hard it also gets the car out of the track a bit, so I think the rule changes just helped me, someone who use to struggled to get the car to turn.”

“Night started off with a heat race with 2 red flags which it’s never good to see people tear equipment up.  I was able to get into the handicapping which started me off 16th in the first feature.  Seemed to be in the right lanes on restarts and picked my way to 3rd by halfway.  I started to struggle on top and was just hoping to hold on for a 3rd.  I was able to finish in 3rd and happy after starting that far back in 16th.”

“In the second feature I really thought I’d be starting 12th or so, but the lineup had me 8th.  Not knowing If I should make changes, I left the car the same just added fuel.  At the start of the race, I was able to make a few moves to get up to 4th by the end of the first lap.  Kind of started to search around, trying to make speed but was just not making any ground up.  Then had a restart on lap 8, the track started to slick off and I saw the leaders fight for the bottom going into turn 1 leaving the top open.  I fully committed to top and was able to grab the lead going into 3.  The top started to develop a curb, and I started to struggle with it. I was in the middle 3-4 when the caution came out on the last lap and saw it was Kenny Gilmore in second.  I know he’s so good at running the bottom and with it being an extra feature, I wasn’t sure if the bottom took rubber or not.  So, on the final restart, I decided to leave the top and run the bottom, hoping I could hold on for one more lap and it did work out in the ned.”

“Our car has been really fast this year. But now with being higher in the points, starting last in the heats will make my night a lot harder. I just hope to keep bringing a capable car every week and see where I end up at the end of the night.”

Jimmy Leiby posted a solid day with a 2nd place finish from 11th in the first feature along with a 5th place from 9th in the second feature.

Jimmy reflected “We had the good heat race we needed to setup our night and made some minor adjustments for the first feature.

“We struggled early in the first feature and fell back to 13th but found the top on restarts which I used to move forward. Our second-place finish was contested late in the race by Jesse Landis, but we were able to hold him off for the position.”

“In the second feature we were able to pass some cars and get another solid finish in 5th. Our car is really good here at Grandview but scheduling and budget restraints will limit our races at Grandview this year. This is my team, but dad still helps, and he just put a front clip on this car.”

TJ Mayberry finished 4th from 10th in the first feature and then 9th from 5th in second feature posting top ten finishes for the first time this season.

TJ noted “First couple of weeks I think we had a decent car, but we got caught up in a few wrecks and didn’t really get to see what the car could do for a whole feature. I’ve been working with my shock guy to get our feature setup a little better. Last race we were caught up in the big first lap wreck and after restarting from the rear the car felt pretty good.”

” Last night it felt good in the heat, and we made the invert which was the big thing. I think we’ve found a good heat setup from the start of the year. Come feature time we tried something new in the setup, and it worked really well. I had great bite off the bottom while everyone else seemed to be running the top. I felt like we could have had something for the top 3 but I was happy with 4th.”

” For the second feature we ran our “slick” setup thinking the track was going to slick off after the modified feature. The track really held the moisture from what they put on it and unfortunately the car didn’t really get going until the end of the feature. Overall, I was happy with the night, a top 5 and a top 10 with no real damage to the car is a great night in my book.”

Brett Gilmore finished 5th and 3rd from his 9th and 4th starting positions in the twin 20’s.

Brett recalled “In warmups the track was super slimy which I knew would make for a good track later in the night. In the heat race I started 4th and got a really good jump up to 3rd and kept it rolling.  Got the 39B when he missed the bottom and just hit my marks with a car that works really well in clean air.”

“Started 9th in first feature and I cannot express to you how scared I am of some of these guys…. holy crap it’s like some guys can’t hold a line and when you get underneath them and you just get put into the infield.  Managed to avoid the windshield wipers and ended up 5th.”

“Little too loose to run the bottom, so we made a couple adjustments for the second feature and went out starting 4th. The car was good right away and I figured if I could get rolling good through the middle, I would have a chance to win.  I was running 3rd when the caution came out and thought I could hold back Landis, but he’s got something figured out for sure. He drove around me and once again I was stuck behind a rolling roadblock, so my dad also got by me.  I think I would’ve had something for Landis and my dad if I had not gotten my front end chopped off every time I got a run.  I do like racing with these guys, but it is hard to be around some of them in a race when they can’t pick a lane.  I’m not trying to be rude, but some of these guys just plain scare me. I can’t even try to race until they get fanned out after 5 laps.”

“All in all, a good night though I’ll take two top five finishes.  My dad’s on bars and I’m on coils.  He made some shock adjustments and figured something out with his motor because he’s got that thing working now.”

Kenny Gilmore finished 9th from his 12th starting spot in the first feature and then posted a 2nd place finish from his 6th starting spot in the second feature of the night.

Kenny commented “My night was pretty good and still learning how to race a crate motor in my first year of running a crate motor. I made some changes in the off weeks, and the car ran better. Didn’t get any breaks in the first feature and finished 9th from 12th.”

“For the second feature we changed gears and rear tires opting for less stagger and the car was better. We are still not good enough to win but I’m getting closer. I just need to change my driving style to more like my competition which means start using bumpers and rub rails more like many do and unfortunately that’s what crate racing boils down to these days. These not a lot of respect out there like in the past.”

Colin Cox finished 8th from 23rd in feature number one and posted a 4th place finish from his 14th starting position in the second feature. Colin was a double hard charger with a +15 and +10 in both features and continues to add to his early season points lead.

Colin stated “I knew it would be one of the most important races of the year with having double features, so I just wanted to keep my nose clean and try not to force anything unnecessary. Ended up having to come through the consolation again with the heats being tough to pass in again. I start in the back every week since I’m the point leader and it makes for an important and challenging start to the night. Started 3rd in the consolation and ended up 2nd which had me starting 23rd in the 1st feature.

” I knew I would just have to be patient and take what I can get while trying to save the car so I can finish both features and get a good points night. I ended up finishing 8th in the 1st feature and I’m not sure how they did invert but that put me starting 14th in the 2nd feature.

” I was pretty excited to start that far up since I’ve been having to come from 20th on back in the last couple races. Again, I knew I just had to be patient and finish the race. I was able to work my way up to 4th at the checkers which put a good ending on our night. We were trying some stuff in the heats and consolations which got the car a lot better for the features. It was definitely a good points night for me and I’m looking forward to getting back next week weather permitting.”
