Cale Ross Storms to Second Modified Win of Season at Bridgeport’s Joey Kay Memorial

After four early cautions, Cale Ross emerged with the lead on lap 3 from his 7th starting position and proceeded to put on a high bank driving clinic lapping over half of the field and taking his second checkered flag of the season at Bridgeport with over an 11 second advantage over second place Dylan Steuer and 3rd place Roger Manning.

Ross is already locked into a points death match with Dylan Steuer who has a 33-point lead over Ross after seven races.  Cale has posted two wins and three 2nd places in 7 races this season while Dylan has also posted two wins.

In victory lane Cale reflected “We got the setup right in this car a few weeks back and it’s sweet running the bottom hard but a lot of the time I can still get tight up on top.  This place is so aero dependent, that if you get out in front in clean air it’s such a big deal and I was able to get there early in this race.”

“I could see I was catching & lapping a lot of good cars but still had some struggles making a few of the passes.  This is an older car that we have fixed and made it better. Right now, we have a real good package under me.”

“I don’t usually worry about hot lap times, but Dylan was faster than we were in hot laps and then faster in his heat race by a decent margin of .7 of a second.  We did move forward in the heat race and finished 2nd but just off the pace from what Dylan laid down in his heat race.”

“I started in 7th in the feature and don’t usually start that far up in the lineup, but several visiting teams made the handicap which pushed me up in the starting grid tonight.  The four early cautions gave us the opportunity to pick off some positions on the restarts, so we were in position to take the lead on lap 3.  Getting out in front early makes all the difference in the world at Bridgeport.  The car was working anywhere I put it – top, bottom or middle.  Nonetheless it’s always tough running in front not knowing how close they are behind you and if I’m choosing the best line.”

“It was surprising to win by 11 seconds, but the key is always who is first to the front.  It was not surprising to see Dylan Steuer right back there in 2nd.  In both of my wins this season it has been Dylan right there with me in 2nd place.  We are in a tight points race for the moment but I’m going to need some luck as I may be missing a few weeks of racing later in the season while on a long overdue family vacation.”

“We had a bad season last year without any wins and lots of U joint failures, so we had many questions coming into the 2025 racing season even before addressing the new rules package at Bridgeport related to rev box, droop and running with no rear spoiler.”

“The season opened with STSS race which we had a solid 10th place finish running with the big blocks.   The Bridgeport points opener was another story, and we had a terrible night going from 12th to 15th just struggled with the new rules package.  We turned everything around in the next two races and posted a 2nd place finish and a win to round out April.”

“We started May with a wreck and a DNF then rebounded with two 2nd place finishes leading to a win tonight.  We have an older 21 Bicknell which has been rear clipped twice and front clipped once, but we have our Murray motor and 21 Bicknell chassis combination humming on the new rules package at Bridgeport.”

“We had three wins here at Bridgeport in 2023, but this year has by far been our most consistent and best season to date with two wins and three 2nd place finishes in 7 starts to date this season.  We have been fast on the bottom, middle, and top and haven’t touched the setup in three weeks.  The car is right and balanced, and we hope it stays that way the rest of the season.”
