Danny Bouc & Dan Fleming Win Legends of the Fall at New Egypt Speedway

Danny Bouc took the lead on lap 70 restart after a late race penalty placed leader Jack Butler back one position on the restart.  Bouc was moved to the inside pole by the penalty, and it was all Danny needed to be able to take the lead on the restart and hold it for the final 5 laps to the checkered flag and his first trip to victory lane this season at New Egypt Speedway.

In victory lane Danny commented “It us awhile to get here in victory lane this year and you have to lean on your sponsors when your not winning races and I can’t thank them all enough.  Car was getting better as the race went on for us.  What a tough deal for Jack with restart jump penalty and he had me covered tonight but it is what it is and we’ll take it.”

At the trailer Danny reflected “Track was definitely over watered tonight but in the last 20 laps of the feature the track slicked up and came in for me.  We really struggled with the heavy track.  Jack was the best car out there tonight and he had us covered and could run the top better than we could.  I was rolling the middle and had to fight it out with several guys to be in second when the penalty put us into the lead.  I thought I was going to run out of fuel too.”

Jack Butler had command of the race for 69 laps until he received a penalty on his first  jump start infraction of the day.

Back at the trailer Jack reflected “We were on rails all night long.  We didn’t change a nut or bolt for the feature and came out with a great car.  Track came to us in the feature even though Matt got around us on one restart I just had to work a bit to get him back.  Car just got better and better.  On lap 69 restart track made a penalty call for starting before the box which put me back to 2nd on the restart and I don’t agree with the call.  The call gave Danny lane choice with five laps to go.  If you would have told me yesterday, I was going to run 2nd I would have been extremely happy with it but getting second is way is difficult.  But nonetheless this was one of our best runs ever even despite the 2nd place finish.”

Matt Stangle stayed in to top five for the entire 75 lap race and did lead for 8 laps despite but was also penalized for a jump start early in the race.  Stangle finished a strong 3rd place and quickly packed up to go home and get ready to return to Orange County Fairgrounds for the Big Block Modified Eastern States 200.

Brandon Grosso, Jeff Strunk, and Ryan Krachun battled one and another in the top 6 for the entire feature and finished 4th through 6th respectively.

Mike Gular and  Rick Laubach both went to the pits for early flat tires and were able to run back through the field to a 7th and 8th place finish respectively.

Dan Fleming chased down Ryan Simmons and took the lead on lap 16 of the two caution feature to drive into victory lane with a 2.5 second margin of victory for his second win of the season.

Back at the trailer Dan noted “We started out the night with a slimy track and a bad draw, but things came around for us in the heat race  We raced to 2nd from a 7th starting position and did much better in the redraw starting 2nd in the feature.  I knew racing with the Ryan on the pole was going to be tough as he is one of the best at NES.  I followed him util we hit lapped traffic and I through a Hail Mary under a lapped car and I never saw anybody the rest of the night but was still nervous because I know Toth was back there.  Restarts are usually key here but tonight we were able to grab the lead while under green.”

Joe Toth finished a solid 2nd from his 11th starting position to secure his 2nd NES points championship of the season by winning the High Gear Towing 2022 Crate points championship to add to his 2022 NES  Crate championship.

Joe Toth stated “We had a real good night running both modified and crates.  We didn’t redraw very well for either heat but managed to win both our modified and crate heat race.  In the modified race we broke the front pan hard bar from contact, and I muscled for awhile but had to go into the pits.  We were heading for a top 10 but we fell out with 5 laps to go.”

Joe continued “This is the first time I have been able to run both modified and crate features in one night.  I got something in my eye during the modified race and struggled seeing the lines with the crate which needed to be a little tighter too.  Still a solid 2nd place run tonight which got us the High Gear Towing Crate Points championship for 2022 to add to our NES crate championship and the DIS championship which we won Friday night with a win in Delaware championship crate race on Friday night.”
