McLaughlin Wins at Portland

Scott McLaughlin took a dominant victory in Portland, winning the pole and then holding the effective lead the whole race, taking his third win of the season, as he improved to fifth in points, and the final driver in the championship fight. McLaughlin ran away at the start of the race, as unusually there were no incidents at Turn 1, infamously the source of strife and cautions in Portland races. McLaughlin won his third pole on Saturday, and has now won from pole on all three occasions. Will Power started second and finished there, with Scott Dixon on a massive recovery drive to finish 3rd after starting 16th, Pato O’Ward 4th, and Graham Rahal 5th.

Will Power holds and extends his championship lead, with Dixon and Newgarden tied in second 20 points behind. Ericsson is even farther back and needs a win and a miracle at Laguna as he is 39 points back of Power. McLaughlin sits 41 points back, two behind Ericsson. Both Ericsson and McLaughlin need a win, and then need all of the other title contenders to finish at the very back. IndyCar will be at Laguna September 11, at 3PM ET on NBC.
