A thrilling end after a 2 hour rain delay saw Josef Newgarden take his fifth win of the 2022 season, and his fourth at Gateway. Newgarden caught teammate Scott McLaughlin by surprise after the final restart, and never looked back. The real story of the end of the race was David Malukas, who absolutely stunned onlookers and the broadcast team, flashing by IndyCar’s best oval drivers to finish second. Malukas pulled off a brilliant move around the outside of Scott McLaughlin, passing the Penske driver on the last lap.
Newgarden draws level to Power in the points, only 3 points behind his Penske teammate. Dixon sits 14 behind Power, Ericsson only 3 behind him. There is a gap to Alex Palou, who sits 43 behind Power, then 11 to McLaughlin, and 4 more to O’Ward.
