Scott Dixon took his second win of the 2022 IndyCar season, and pulled up to 6 points behind current championship leader Will Power. Dixon held on through a chaotic final few laps, as two consecutive crashes brought out late yellow flags, including a red after Romain Grosjean crashed into the barrier due to contact with Josef Newgarden. Only 15 cars finished the race running, as 11 cars did not finish at the tight 2.1 mile street circuit. An incident between Power and O’Ward caused by Graham Rahal sent O’Ward out of the race, and seriously damaged Power’s, forcing him to manually shift for the rest of the race. Dixon had major floor damage from the same incident as well, creating a massive lack of grip that didn’t stop him from taking his 53rd IndyCar win.
Power maintains his lead on the standings, only 6 points ahead of the race winner Scott Dixon. Indy 500 winner Marcus Ericsson sits another 6 points behind Dixon, after two difficult races mitigated by poor finishes by championship rivals. Newgarden is in 4th, 10 points behind Ericsson, with Palou 11 points behind Newgarden. Scott McLaughlin has come on strong of late, moving up to 6th in points, 58 behind Power. McLaughlin has three straight top 5 finishes, two of which were podium efforts, as he makes a late season push for the title. Pato O’Ward has had two straight races with finishes outside the top 10, and after only pulling home 6 points today, he slides to 7th in points, just 1 behind McLaughlin. Those top 7 are within just over a race’s worth of points, and sit 60 points clear of 8th place Alex Rossi.
