Justin Allgaier just gave Chevrolet their first win at New Hampshire in an Xfinity race in 15 years, as he was able to grab his third win of the 2022 season and bring home a special birthday gift to his wife Ashley, a trophy.
“We finished second here last year to a Toyota and I told these guys I really wanted to win here,’’ said Allgaier, said in his post-race interview. “This place has been so much fun over the years.’’
“First of all, it’s my wife’s birthday, so if I can’t be with my wife on her birthday, the best thing to do is take home a trophy to her. Just proud of the team.”
It wasn’t easy however for the Illinois-native, as at one point he had an incident with Julia Landauer, who was making her Xfinity Series debut, which he apologized for. The battle came down between Allgaier and Landon Cassill, who was chasing his first career Xfinity Series win. Both drivers exchanged the lead in the final 60 laps until Allgaier took the lead and stayed out in front to earn the win. Cassill would go on to finish third after being passed by Trevor Bayne, who was driving for Joe Gibbs Racing. For Cassill, he was disqualified from his finish after the race, as his team failed post-race inspection for the rear of his No. 10 Chevrolet being too low.
Another driver that was disqualified was a teammate of Justin Allgaier, and that was Noah Gragson, who originally finished fourth. The front of his car was ruled too low during post-race inspection. Both DQs moved Brandon Brown up to a third-place finish, giving him his best finish of the season and his first top five of the season. Jeremy Clements ended up in fourth place and Sheldon Creed was fifth. Rounding out the top 10 were Ty Dillon, Austin Hill, Kyle Weatherman, Mason Massey, and Bayley Currey.
While Ty Gibbs led the most laps at 49 in the race, he fell to a 21st place finish after suffering mechanical issues after stage two. AJ Allmendinger, who finished 20th, was also involved in a multi-car incident and had to pit for extensive repairs.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series heads next to Pocono Raceway on Saturday, July 23rd at 5 pm EST USA, MRN, and SiriusXM.
