Preece, Allgaier wins the Guitar at Nashville

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series made their stop in the Music City for a tripleheader weekend with the NASCAR Cup Series, leading up to Sunday’s Ally 400. The race weekend started off with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, which was dominated and won by Ryan Preece, running part-time across all three circuits this season.

Preece led 74 of the 150 laps that evening, as he scored back-to-back wins for David Gilliland Racing where Todd Gilliland won at Knoxville last weekend. Not only that, but Preece goes back-to-back at Nashville, as he won the race a season ago with the same team. Preece also earned a $50,000 bonus for winning the second event in the NCWTS Triple Truck Challenge.

“We got a second guitar, I may have to start a band!” Preece said in his post-race interview. “These guys (in the shop) work their tails off, and I know what it takes to win races. They give me phenomenal race cars. I’m just proud to be the one holding the steering wheel.”

Preece had to do it by holding off Zane Smith and Carson Hocevar and he took the lead from Smith on lap 74. Despite the wreck on lap 95 where Grant Enfinger, Corey Heim, Matt DiBenedetto, and Ty Majeski went into Turn 3 four-wide. Or even late restarts, it was Ryan Preece that could not be stopped, as he played good defense to hold off the charging trucks of Zane Smith and Carson Hocevar.

Ty Majeski finished fourth, Stewart Friesen finished in fifth, then rounding out the top 10 were Christian Eckes, Tyler Ankrum, Max Gutierrez, John Hunter Nemechek, and Matt Crafton. Zane Smith took a 21-point lead over John Hunter Nemechek after the race. The truck series will make their first trip to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on July 9th with a 1 PM EST Green Flag on FS1.

As for the Xfinity Series, it was Justin Allgaier earning himself a guitar and his second win of the 2022 season. An a very hot day in Nashville, Allgaier had a dominant car leading all but 53 laps in the 250-mile race.

“You fans who stuck around here in this heat, thank you all very much,” Allgaier said in his post-race interview with NBC. “What a heck of a race, we’ve been coming here for a long time- love this race track and been trying to get into victory lane so bad, haven’t been able to do it.”

“Today was for the dirt racers though because it was slick, it was hot, we were sliding around and- just proud of this team.”

Allgaier also dedicated the win to his dad, who returned to the race track after having recent health issues.

“My dad’s had some health issues and at one point there in Austin, I wasn’t sure what was going to happen,” Allgaier explained. “We got some really good doctors, we got him fixed up and he’s been back to the rack track this week and there’s nothing better than that. This is all about family to me, this is what the sport is all about.”

Trevor Bayne, driving for Joe Gibbs Racing, finished second, Riley Herbst was third, Ty Gibbs fourth, and Sam Mayer fifth. Then rounding out the top 10 were Ryan Preece, Jeffrey Earnhardt, Austin Hill, Ryan Sieg, and Brett Moffitt. The Xfinity Series heads next to Road America on Saturday, July 2nd at 2:30 pm EST on USA.
