Josh Berry Cruises to the Victory at Charlotte

Josh Berry earned his second win of the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series Season at Charlotte on Saturday afternoon, scoring his fourth career win. Berry did it by outdueling his Jr Motorsports teammate, Justin Allgaier. With 22 to go, Berry passed Allgaier for the lead after Allgaier got loose and got into the wall in turns one and two. Allgaier would go on to finish seventh after having a tire go down, as Berry got out to an 18-second lead that lead to his win.

“Man, it’s so amazing,” Josh Berry said talking to Tyler Reddick, who was a pit reporter for the broadcast. “This car was so good. We’ve been getting better every week, I think the sky’s the limit as we continue to learn about each other and keep getting better.”

“That was a battle with Justin, it always is with us. We always just seem to run good at the same places and always have to race each other. He slipped up in one (turn one) and I got loose too. He got loose and I got loose too, but it all worked out.”

For Justin Allgaier, he hung on and felt proud of his No. 7 team at the end of the race.

“I knew at the beginning of the race, I thought we had four cars that could finish 1-2-3-4. I still think they got close to finishing there,” Allgaier said post-race.

“After the first contact in the wall, I kinda felt like maybe the right rear was going soft and ended up going down and had to pit under green. Disappointing but congrats to Josh and this whole Jr Motorsports team. It’s nice to have the momentum we got now and we’re gonna keep running that high.”

For Jr Motorsports and the 63 wins the team has had over the years, this was the first win at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the team. Ty Gibbs finished second, Sam Mayer third, then Noah Gragson and Ryan Preece rounded out the top five. Daniel Hemric, Justin Allgaier, Sheldon Creed, Trevor Bayne, and Myatt Snider rounded out the top 10. The Xfinity Series goes to a new venue next Saturday (Jun 4th) at Portland International Raceway for a 4:30 pm EST green flag.
