The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series headed out to the midwest for the Heart of America 200 at Kansas Speedway, where Zane Smith led 108 of the 134 laps to get his third victory of the 2022 season, the highest among any other driver in the circuit.
“It was really just an unbelievable truck,” said Smith in his post-race interview. “This is our Vegas truck, I feel like this would’ve been an image of Vegas, what we’ve seen tonight if I didn’t get damage early in the race there.”
“So dang cool. That was one of my easier ones I’ve ever had to win, but that late-race restart scared me a little bit.”
Zane Smith said he was stuck in fourth and apologized for no burnout after winning this race. Smith collects his sixth career truck series win, getting his first two in 2020 and third late in the season in 2021.
“It’s a good thing I didn’t have another one there, because I’m stuck in fourth, so sorry for no burnout.”
Ty Majeski ended up as the runner-up in the race, nearly getting his first career finish, and gave him his best career finish in the Truck Series.
“We were really close,” Majeski said. “We kept easing on the adjustments all night, getting the balance better on every run. The track was freeing up, and we were just a little too free, so we kept making small changes.
“The sun went down, and I think we over-adjusted a little on that last stop, just couldn’t attack it, just a little bit too free.”
Majeski also feels pretty optimistic about the season moving ahead, “Being in the shop every day with these guys and working with them, we have a great relationship and there’s a lot of good things coming.”
Grant Enfinger came home in third place, and Chandler Smith and Christain Eckes rounded out the top five. After that, John Hunter Nemechek, Matt DiBenedetto, Derek Kraus, Matt Crafton, and Ben Rhodes rounded out the top 10, as Ben Rhodes continued to be the points leader after this race.
Stewart Friesen, who ended up finishing 14th, almost missed the race when his flight from New York LaGuardia Airport was canceled, causing him to spend the night. A delay with his connection to Chicago caused him to miss qualifying, prompting Bubba Wallace to qualify for him, and putting Friesen in the back to start the race.
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series heads next to Texas Motor Speedway on Friday, May 20th at 8:30 PM EST on FS1, MRN, and SiriusXM.
