Ryan Godown squeezed out a hometown win by .151 seconds over 2nd place Stewart Friesen to win the Super Dirt Car “King of the Big Blocks” 75 lap modified championship at Bridgeport.
Alex Yankowski stormed off the pole position in hopes for his 2nd Super Dirt Car Series win but it was not to be as a broken radiator ended the 84Y’s night Ryan Godown moved from his 10th starting position to the lead on lap 11. Ryan Godown moved from his 10th starting position into the lead on lap 11 which is where he stayed right to the checkered flag. Stewart Friesen moved past Billy Pauch into 2nd place on lap 70 and made a strong bid for the win coming up only .151 short as Godown took the checkered flag for his 1st Super Dirt Series win and his 3rd win in a row at Bridgeport Speedway
Postrace back at the trailer Godown noted “We redrew 10th around all the good wood there and I was just saying we got to try to get there and then relax. I don’t know how much you can relax around these guys. Like you said Stew was patient, but I don’t know how this race is going to play out. We’ve had it so there are 75 all green flag laps, and you know it’s just one of those deals where you have to go feel your comfort zone. I made my tires last about 70 laps and probably the last 5 or 7 laps I felt it going away maybe a little longer and that was the biggest thing for me. Once I thought I heard someone there, I couldn’t figure it out and then I saw his slider from deep. I knew I had to cross him and if I get next to him maybe I had a shot just to hold him up a little, but you’re not going to hold him up too much longer than I did. With the white flag knew I had to throw everything I had at it just to try to get this win and I’m thankful for all my guys and sponsors.”
