Concrete Heartbreak: Anthony Macri wins after Brent Marks breaks on the last lap at Bridgeport

Since the reconfiguration of Bridgeport Motorsports Park. The racing has become fast paced, hot and heavy action all over the new 4/10 mile high banked oval. Wednesday nights “Invasion of The Posse” saw that and then some.

For 29 and a half laps it was all Myerstown Brent Marks, all the time. But it would be Dillsburg’s Anthony Macri scoring his 5th 410 sprint car win of 2022 and 3rd in a row, after some last lap drama when Marks breaks coming off of turn 2 on the final lap.

“You hate to win them like that. I’m sure we lost a few like that before.” Said Macri ” Marks was definitely better in clean air. But when we got to lap traffic felt like the cars equaled out and I took ever shot I could at him. Hats off to Brent and those guys. It didnt go their way tonight and we’ll take $7500.”

The race started with Neptune City,NJ Kyle Reinhardt on the pole along side Marks on the front row to bring the field of 24 out of 27 total cars to green with Marks leading the opening laps

By lap 5 Marks was already in heavy lap traffic trying to fend off Monrovia, In Justin Peck and on lap 6 with a Hail Mary slider on lap car Davie Franek  to keep the top spot from Peck.

Things would only get wild from there…

On lap 10 Lynton Jeffery flipped in turn 3 and Peck had nowhere to go and clipped Jefferys car putting a hole in Peck’s right rear and breaking the right rear shock as well.

“You’re playing a game of inches and thousands of seconds.” Said Peck. “I was trying to make quick movements. I knew I left off about 2/3rds down the back straight away. I knew I was coming in a little too hard. Misjudged it he went in a car length lower than I thought. My right rear went over (Lynton) Jeffery’s left rear and broke a shock and put a hole in my tire. I felt like we were the best car tonight and got a win taken away from us with some bad luck.”

The crew thrashed during the red flag and got Peck a new right rear and got a shock back on to allow the Buch 13 to return to the field to the great crowd on hand for a Wednesday night race appreciation.

Marks would lead new 2nd place runner Anthony Macri and the field to the restart and the field would spread out with the best battle on the track being between Briggs Danner and Christopher Bell trading sliders from Hell on lap 14 as Marks begins to hit lap traffic

At halfway, Macri tries to push Marks up the track trying to get by the Murray-Marks 19 but Marks momentum keeps him in the top spot.

Marks splits the lap cars Dave Brown and Chad Trout and begins to pull away on lap 18 and smacks the wall. Meanwhile Macri is  giving everything in the closing laps

Yellow comes out on lap 20 for Lucas Wolfe breaking a rod end and putting the 5w into the wall and spinning out on the back stretch. As the yellow comes on Justin Peck gets around Nascar Star Alex Bowman, who was a pleasant surprise entrant to move up into the 6th spot.

On the ensuing restart. Macri was caught sleeping as Marks pulled away to the lead and

Peck gets to 5th during a great battle with bell. Peck is doing everything but junking the car at this point. Jumping the cushion and giving it everything the 13 car has and has the right rear shock go away on him.

With 5 to go Marks back in lap traffic and seems to  be in the catbird seat for a $7500 pay day.

But after Marks takes the white flag Marks gear breaks and slows in turn 2 and Macri gets in to the back of Marks and spins out. But with the rules Bridgeport was running he was allowed to keep his spot as the leader because he kept going.

A one lap shootout would see a last ditch effort by both Kyle Reinhardt and Peck but Anthony Macri would hold on to win the Invasion of The Posse and his 2nd sprint car win at Bridgeport with a URC win coming last November. Reinhardt would finish 2nd , with Peck, Christopher Bell and Freddie Rahmer rounding out the top 5
