INDYCAR: Harvey out at Texas, Ferrucci Steps In

Breaking news out of the NTT Indycar Series Paddock sees Jack Harvey out of the #45 Hy-Vee Rahal Letterman Lanigan entry after his massive crash in the final practice yesterday. INDYCAR released a statement this morning saying,

“Per INDYCAR protocol, all drivers wear accelerometers that measure g-forces exhibited during an incident. These get evaluated, fully, after each incident, and if the result of the g-forces surpasses the minimum threshold, drivers must be re-evaluated prior to returning to competition. Following the protocol, the driver of the No. 45, Jack Harvey, was re-evaluated this morning and was not cleared for racing. Harvey is working closely with the INDYCAR medical team regarding next steps.”

Santino Ferrucci will drive the backup car today, after making five starts for the team in 2021. Ferrucci will have to start the race from the back of the grid due to the driver change. INDYCAR is allowing the team to have Ferrucci turn laps in the car at 10:15 local time to both shake down the car and give him a few laps at speed before the green flag flies.
