Same Blue Hen Racing # 30 Modified with a Different Watson in the Seat at Danny Serrano 100 Memorial

The Modified timed hot laps at the Danny Serrano Memorial 100 opened with the Blue Hen Racing #30 turning in quick time and being at the front of the field which has often been the case this season at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park.  But a closer look at the qualifying sheet revealed one big change for the weekend as it was Jordan Watson driving instead of the usual Jo Jo Watson.

During the regular season Jo Jo finished 6th in points at Bridgeport Motorsports Park while Jordan finished won the championship at Delaware International Speedway for his third year in a row.

On Thursday night JoJo found out he would not be available to race on Saturday so he immediately asked his brother Jordan to take the car to the Danny Serrano Memorial 100.

Jordan recalled “I got a call on Thursday from Joseph and he asked me to run his car at Danny’s race since he just found out he would not be available this weekend.  I wasn’t racing that weekend and immediately said yes.  By Thursday night I was at his shop switching my seat to his car and moving his steering box to fit me since I’m much taller than Joseph.”

Right out of the box in Friday night’s timed hot laps Jordan put the #30 up front of the field just like Jo Jo has done most Saturdays during the season.  On Saturday Jordan qualified for the 100 lap feature from his 6th starting position.

Jordan stated “The biggest difference I saw with his car was just the brake system and how he had brake pedal mounted.  We worked hard to get car where I wanted it turning wise since Joseph & I both have different driving styles. I felt we had a good car Saturday night after making some adjustments.  In the qualifying race we went a little too hard on RR tire for track after they reworked the track. It took me too long to get going in a caution free race. Before this weekend; I’ve only ever ran about 10 laps with a spec motor. With the spec deal; it reminds me a lot of the crate racing.  You’ve got to really try keeping the car straight and free up more than when you are running an open motor modified like I do weekly at Delaware International Raceway.  I really enjoyed running a the spec motor and racing at Bridgeport Speedway.  I plan to run more at Bridgeport in the future.  We’re just waiting for our own spec motor to be finished shortly.  I really feel you’ve got to be more aggressive at Bridgeport than most tracks that I race at; considering the amount of racing space at Bridgeport and all the slide jobs being used you really need to be up on wheel.  I feel that after running the 100 laps we have a lot better idea what’s needed to win next time we head back to Bridgeport.”

Jordan started 16th and fell back to 21st early in the 100 lap feature but then was able to work his way through the field to an 8th place finish.  Jordan noted “We put harder tires on for the feature and they just took a while to get going.  I really thought we were on our way to a top 5 but then the car got tight in the end of the race.”

No matter which Watson brother is in the Blue Hen Racing # 30 they are heading for the front of the field at Bridgeport Motorsports Park.
