The Camping World Truck Series makes their next stop in Pocono in part of a five-race weekend that will also feature ARCA, Xfinity and the Cup Series Doubleheader, for the CRC Brakleen 150. Kyle Busch is entered in the #51 truck for his own team and definitely would be considered as a heavy favorite to win this event. In the other four races he ran, he won two and finished 2nd in the other two. Another cup driver has entered the race, that being Ryan Preece, who won in his first truck series start at Nashville last weekend. He will once again drive #17 Ford F-150 for David Gilliland Racing. This race had 150 miles and 60 laps.
Todd Gilliland and Zane Smith led the field to the green flag and right as the green flag dropped we already had the big one strike as Jack Wood didn’t get going, he gets turned into the wall by Chandler Smith and collecting Johnny Sauter, which will badly hurt his playoff chances. Zane Smith ended up taking Stage one, holding off Kyle Busch to collect a handful of stage points.
Zane had a strong truck going, one that was holding off the heavy favorite, Kyle Busch. Smith however was hit with a penalty after not making it to pit road before it closed in Stage two. After electing not to pit late, John Hunter Nemechek added on to his stage win collection in a march towards the Camping World Truck Series championship, winning stage two. The race resumed on lap 36 with some concerns of sprinkling around the area of the track. Kyle Busch and Carson Hocevar led the field to begin stage three. Busch was able to pull away with the lead with Sheldon Creed jumping into second. With 14 laps to go, Chandler Smith took his #18 Toyota Tundra down pit road for an unscheduled stop, trying to fight an ill-handling truck. Chandler ended up going a lap down as his struggles continue. The 4th caution comes out with 10 to go as Stewart Friesen lost control of his #52 Halmar Toyota and takes a hard hit to the wall. He was battling for a top 10 position at the time of the caution. Friesen’s truck continued to roll and the crew went to work on fixing the car to get all the points they can get. Many leaders came down pit road including Zane Smith and Carson Hocevar to make final adjustments and get some splashes of Sunoco fuel. A tough break for Grant Enfinger as his engine expired on his #9 Truck, he was running in the top 10 as well.
Kyle Busch still leads the field with six laps to go on the restart. John Hunter Nemechek would clear the boss man coming off of turn one to take the lead. As the leaders broke away there was a lot of beating and banging for position in the closing laps. Meanwhile up front, Kyle Busch is back to challenge his driver for the win. With three to go, Sheldon Creed caught up to Busch and they nearly wreck as Creed had the opportunity to take 2nd from Busch. Creed got loose and chased it up the hill, he kept going in third as John Hunter pulled away. Nemechek moved down from the Cup Series to the trucks to win races and he is continuing to win races as the 24-year old took the checkered flag to score the win at Pocono. This is Nemechek’s 5th win of the 2021 season. Kyle Busch finished 2nd, Sheldon Creed 3rd, Tyler Ankrum 4th and Austin Hill rounding out the top 5. JHN officially outbeat his boss in wins 3-2 this season. Chandler Smith now has the final spot in the playoffs as he is 28 points to the good. The truck series heads next to the Knoxville Speedway where they take on the dirt in Iowa.
