Grandview Speedway kicked off their 2021 racing season with the opening race of the weekly NASCAR championship points chase under pleasant skies and warm conditions. Over 70 modifieds and sportsman entries were on hand looking for an opening day trip to victory lane.
In the modified feature it was Brett Kressley storming from his 8th starting position to take the lead on a lap 17 restart from outside pole sitter Ryan Grim hold off Craig Von Dohren for his first win of the 2021 season. Von Dohren moved forward 17 positions from his 19th starting position coming up one spot short for an impressive second place run from a 19th starting position. Ryan Grim held on for a 3rd place finish despite losing his brakes on lap 16.
The top ten finishers were rounded out by Ryan Grim in 3rd place followed by Duane Howard, Kevin Hirthler, Jeff Strunk, Louden Reimert, Ron Kline, Doug Manmiller and John Willman.
The sportsman feature saw Kenny Gilmore, Ryan Beltz and Brandon Edgar all trade for the early lead but it was a lap 23 pass by Brian Hirthler on Brandon Edgar to take the opening night win and a trip to the Grandview sportsman victory lane.
The top ten sportsman finishers were round out by Brandon Edgar in 2nd place, Kenny Gilmore, Ryan Beltz, Kyle Lillick, Nat Mohr, Mark Kemmerer, Kyle Smith, Decker Swinehart and Jimmy Leiby
Next up at Grandview is a triple header racing program with modifieds, sportsman and crate 602 divisions on the slate for Saturday April 17th and hot laps at 6:00 with racing starting at 7:00.
