Bridgeport Motorsports Park opened the Kingdom of Speed for season # 2 under windy and unseasonable warm conditions of nearly 80 degrees for Day 1 of for the Kingdom of Speed 100 Weekend. The Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series season opener was also the card for the night with 37 entries on the grounds.
The modifieds had 2 sessions of time hot laps with the quickest time of each session earning an automatic bid into the cash dash for tomorrow’s Doug Hoffman Memorial 60 lap $6,000 to win feature event. The fast time qualifier for timed hot lap session # 1 was Ryan Krachun with a 16.87 only a tad over a hundredth of a second faster than Dominic Buffalino at 16.199.
Modified timed hot lap session # 2 saw Mike Maresca post the quickest time and secure a spot in tomorrow’s cash dash for the 60 lap Doug Hoffman Memorial feature.
Both Ryan Krachun and Mike Maresca are locked into tomorrow’s feature events and will not have to qualify in the heat races. This is getting old hat for Krachun who also qualified # 1 during the timed hot laps at the Danny Serrano Memorial. Mike Maresca also has had recent success at Bridgeport winning the final race of the 2020 season.
In both sessions Dillion Steuer and Dominick Buffalino were 2ND and 3rd quickest of the 30 plus modifieds on hand.
The Mid-Atlantic Sprint car feature was won by Kevin Nagy from the pole position. Nagy had fight off several late race sliders from Dave Brown to hold on for the hard fought win. A mid race 5 car and subsequent red flag tangle restacked the field and the 3 car battle with Nagy, Brown and Steif was on.
The MASS 305 sprint car top ten was rounded out by Dom Melair in 3rd followed by Rory Janney, Bryant Davis, Larry McVay, Zack Bealer, Cody West, John Breenflect and Eddie Wagner in 10th.
The 602 Crates ran an Underdog 20 feature with only drivers who have not won in the past year. Again it was the polesitter Travis Hill winning the race but not until after an intense battle with James Hill who came from the 8th starting position and traded the lead via sliders with Travis for about 5 laps until James Hill pulled off with a bit of smoke and mechanical issues giving the trip to victory lane to Travis Hill.
The 602 crate top 10 was rounded out by Wayne Weaver in 2nd followed by John Micek, Anthony Tramontana, Payton Talbot, Will Dupree, Brent Belmont, Kevin Border, Andy Walko and Billy Chester.
The Street Stock Feature and heat race saw Rich Stinson take the win in both passing the entire field using the bottom line on all his passes and taking the feature win with a 9 second margin of victory.
