The Short Track Super Series opened their 2021 South Region Championship season at Georgetown Speedway with the best near perfect weather conditions in the past five years and record setting car counts with 54 modified and 75 Crate modifieds.
The 49 lap $10,049 to win modified feature was lead for 28 laps by Stewart Friesen who started the race from the pole position. On lap 29 it was Super Matt Sheppard making an impressive pass for the lead on the high side of the track after coming from his 19th starting position on the grid. Sheppard extended his lead only to have lapped traffic bring him back to the field but in the last five laps he pulled away from Friesen and took a comfortable $10,049 win to open up the 2021 Short Track Super Series season and take the early points lead.
The top ten was rounded out by Stewart Friesen in second place followed by Mike Mahaney, Tyler Dippel, Anthony Perrego, Mike Maresca, HJ Bunting, Ryan Godown, Brandon Grosso and Erik Rudolph.
A strong field of 602 Crate modifieds found AJ Potrzebowski starting from the pole position on his first ever trip to Georgetown and lead the one yellow 25 lap feature from start to finish with a straightaway lead on second place finisher Corey Cormier.
The 602 Crate top ten was rounded out by Corey Cromier in second followed by Payton Talbot, Joe Toth, Matt Janczuk, Justin Grosso, L.J. Lombardo, Steven Kemery, Steve Davis and Brad Tice.
