Doug Snyder will close out 2020 and open his 2021 season with racing at the Tulsa Shootout in the Outlaw winged and Non-winged classes behind the wheel of Tyler Harshman’s Racing Engines 163 entry with Mark Manieri as crew chief. Snyder and teammate Eddie Strada head west with the likes of Alex Bright and Kyle Spence to take on over 250 of best micros from across the country.
Snyder has been racing since 1993 and has a diverse racing background which includes both micro 600’s and various big car divisions throughout his career. He has raced primarily 600 micros but has had several stints in big cars starting with late models at Grandview in 2006; 305 touring sprint cars in 2008; crate and sportsman modifieds in the NY state southern tier in 2013/14; and his most recent return to crate modified racing in 2020 continuing into 2021 in the Delaware valley tri state area of PA, NJ & DE. His most recent 600 micro race was at the Trenton indoor race in 2020 driving for Dale Hommick were he qualified 3rd in passing point during qualifying in a field with over 100 cars in attendance.
Doug noted “I have raced 600’s in Illinois, Florida, North Carolina, New York and the Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania tri state area for car owners Mark Manieri, Ben Fisher, Ray Merli, Dean Metzger and Dale Hommick with success. I’m thrilled to have this once in lifetime opportunity to drive for Tyler Harshman at the Tulsa Shootout in both Outlaw wing and Outlaw Non-winged divisions.”
Snyder has also found a knack for introducing new racers to the sport and has a whole garage of race cars being prepared for the 2021 season. “My daughter Brianna and son Weston are moving from ¼ midgets to JR slingshots for the 2021 season. My nephew Ryan Conrad ran my backup 600 in 2019 and moved into a 2005 Teo crate modified for 2020 to just get some experience. Ryan finished 6th at his first race which was a Short Track Super Series race at the Cherokee Speedway and 2nd in points at Big Diamond Speedway in their season long crate point championship in his first year of racing crates. Part way through the season Ryan got a ride in a 2014 Bicknell from car owner Doug Williams. I also have changed from a Teo to a 2014 Bicknell so we have identical team cars for parts and setups.”
A third crate car was added to the team when Anthony Raisner who works as a mechanic at Snyder’s “Superior Auto Service” in Hellertown, PA purchased a 2014 Bicknell crate sportsman entry. Raisner who has been a longtime crew member with Craig Whitmoyer quickly moved to the driver seat during the fall season to start testing and dialing in his new 99R crate entry for the 2021 season.
Snyder noted “We hope to run the entire Short Track Super Series South Region in 2021 and will sit down after the holidays to figure out our weekly home track between Big Diamond, Grandview and Bridgeport. I really look forward to a full season of crate racing.”
“We wouldn’t be able to plan all of this for 2021 without our sponsors Superior Auto Service; Leindecker racing Engines; Shock Spa – Rick Laubach; Saucon Valley Handyman; Amato Roofing; Hoffman’s Discount parts; Precision Hydraulic Race Oils; and Wheelz – Doug Williams. We are also looking for additional marketing partners to come on board for the 2021 season.”
“Getting to end 2020 and start 2021 at the Tulsa Shootout as driver for the Tyler Harshman owed HRE Racing Engines # 163 with Eddie Strada as a teammate is a dream come true and a great end to 2020 and start to 2021 racing season.”
